Doing practical work alongside your studies: a great opportunity
Dominique and Lars are two students who recently joined Nimbus AG as part-time employees. They really appreciate being able to gain practical experience, belonging to a cool team and coping with their intense studies successfully thanks to flexible working hours. Dominique and Lars, you are new with Nimbus. Please tell us about yourselves in a few words.

Dominique: My background is in commerce. During my apprenticeship, I already started to develop a lively interest in computers and programming. This motivated me to study Computer Science in Economics at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences ZHAW. Through a former Nimbus employee’s recommendation, I was offered the opportunity of making a lateral entry and now have the privilege to work in the application development department in a 60 percent part-time position. The focus of my job lies on the further development of the ShApp platform.
Lars: I am a computer scientist by training and am currently studying Computational & Data Science at the Grisons University of Applied Sciences FHGR in Chur. Having grown up in the Glarus region, I still enjoy living here. Mountains, biking, etc. are the things I like. I also joined Nimbus by recommendation of a former employee. In my studies, I focus on artificial intelligence, among other things. Working for Nimbus, on the other hand, requires my human intelligence. I am responsible for maintenance and operations of Nimbus’ infrastructures, setting up new clients, managing migrations, etc. The knowledge I acquired during my apprenticeship is just what is needed here.
You’ve settled in well with Nimbus. What do you like most about your workplace?
Dominique: I really enjoy the diversity we have within our team: older people alongside younger ones, women, and men: all of these are represented and they have all welcomed me very warmly. I appreciate the fast, constructive and encouraging feedback I get on my work, as well as the direct relevance for practical application. I can really learn a lot here!
Lars: I can only confirm the practical relevance. It’s great being able to do useful, helpful work. What’s more, my area of responsibility is very diverse. I interact with everyone here in the building, and that’s wonderful. I really want to emphasize how rewarding it is to work for an employer that’s as flexible as Nimbus. They understand very well when, for example, I have less capacity during the exam period. This enables me to combine work and studies without hassle and to perform well in both places.
Dominique: I totally agree! When we have unscheduled appointments in our studies, Nimbus always reacts very flexibly and allows us to switch workdays. That’s a huge help for us and shows how much they trust in us by giving us this freedom.
Do you have a little story from your part-time professional job to share with our readers.
Dominique: In my first month here, I was already assigned to a General Meetings’ helpdesk, and was very nervous. However, it all worked very well, and of course I always had Nimbus’ experienced core team in the background.
Lars: I jumped into the deep end in my first week here, when I drove to an AGM with Dani and got put in charge of the directing position. It all ran nicely, and there were some funny moments, too: someone brought back a voting device they had accidentally taken with them last year.
Dominique: Oh yes, and once somebody asked me if they could take the device home because they thought it was a Gameboy!
Thank you, Dominique and Lars, for your carefree storytelling! Nicole, as Hansjörgs daughter, you have been connected with Nimbus since your childhood. Today, you are Corporate Communications Manager: would you like to add something?
Nicole: I am very happy to hear such positive comments about Nimbus as an employer and would like to return the compliments to Dominique and Lars: it’s great to have you with us! Thank you both for investing your knowledge and your energy in our company. You are a breath of fresh air and bring in your youthful spirit that adds value to our business. New employees always help us to gain a new perspective on the things we do. We feel this is very valuable and fosters a company’s development.
